It was so good! I loved it. Very tense. Quality plot twists all round. Stifling atmosphere.
It was just very well written, and I found the main character sympathetic and relatable and endearing.
The one thing I would probably criticise is that it kept raising the kind of issues that a relationship with a 15 - 20 year age gap is bound to have, and then never really dealt with them.
I suspect there's a bit of product-of-its-time there, and that that seemed a little less questionable when she was writing it. But I don't really know.
My only other thought is, think how much better it could be of they were lesbians... There's a corner of my mind rewriting it already.

Date: February 25th, 2019 10:47 pm (UTC)I was maybe distracted by how much I wanted for the protagonist to have a relationship with someone on equal footing, which her marriage to Maxim was definitely not.
I will investigate Ms Du Maurier's life further...
