A post!

Hello! Welcome to all the new people who have added me, and welcome back to me, I guess.

In news:

I am in the process of moving house. It's...a bit stressful, as we tried to do it at a reasonable time of year for both of us, but finding a place took longer than expected, so instead it happened at a busy work time for me and mid production week for my girlfriend, and I've left a bunch of useful things at my parents' place and been too busy at work in the last few days to fetch them. There was also a whole saga with cleaning which I will not get deeply into (apparently the apartment had been professionally cleaned before we arrived; it had not been professionally cleaned before we arrived), but my girlfriend is an assertive treasure who likes to make politely disappointed phone calls, so the cleaner is coming tomorrow or Friday?? And everything should be worked out.

Having said all that, I like the apartment very much, other than the layer of dust we are trying to make someone who is not allergic to dust get rid of for us. =P The doors have archways! The splashback in the kitchen is green! There's heating, and air-con, and a bathtub, and a small balcony! We are very near to the beach, and the botanic gardens, and also a local community garden which I must investigate. It's very light and nice. Maybe I will post pictures later on.

Also! I'm applying to go to a conference next year about women and gender in China. I was not really planning to get back into academia, but it's exactly my thesis topic, and also it's an all-expenses-paid trip to China, so I am giving it a shot. So I need to have the application done by the 8th. So that's exciting. We shall see. Fingers crossed, I guess.

I swear there was more news I had, but I've forgotten it now.

Anyway, the main point is that I'm here and life is happening.

I was not really planning to get back into academia, but it's exactly my thesis topic, and also it's an all-expenses-paid trip to China, so I am giving it a shot.

It does! The person who passed it on to me was involved in the committee last year and thought I was in with a fairly good chance, so I am trying not to get too excited before my chickens hatch.

Oh, I'd love a community garden... Although, considering Finland at this time of year, it would have to be a greenhouse.

This is the nice thing where I live. You can grow...something...all year round, though in winter you're a bit more limited.

Yay new apartment! :) I hope everything worked out with the cleaners.

It's happening. Cleaners have come. My girlfriend is chasing them for reimbursement of rent on account we are apparently legally not obliged to move in/pay until the place is in acceptable condition and it should have been professionally cleaned between tenants and was not, but I'm leaving that to her because she has the polite but disappointed phone voice down pat.

So everything is fine now and the apartment is lovely!
